Nearby attractions include Harewood House, Almscliffe Crag, Ripley Castle, and Knaresborough, as well as Nidderdale, the Washburn Valley and of course, the Yorkshire Dales national park itself.

Tropical World (17 km) - The atmosphere of the tropics is recreated here as visitors walk among exotic trees. A waterfall cascades into a rock-pool and other pools contain terrapins and carp. There are reptiles, insects and more than 30 species of butterfly.

Harewood House & Bird Garden (10 km) - Designed in 1759 by John Carr, Harewood House is the home of the Queen's cousin, the Earl of Harewood. His mother, HRH Princess Mary, Princess Royal lived at Harewood for 35 years and much of her memorabilia is still displayed.

Fountains Abbey & Studley Royal (14 km) - Founded by Cistercian monks in 1132, Fountains Abbey is the largest monastic ruin in Britain. It was acquired by William Aislabie in 1768, and became the focal point of his landscaped gardens at Studley. Other interesting features include Fountains Hall.

Newby Hall & Gardens (13 km) - A late 17th-century house with beautifully restored Robert Adam interiors containing an important collection of classical sculpture and Gobelin tapestries. 25 acres of award-winning gardens include a miniature railway and an adventure garden for children.

Brimham Rocks (14 km) - A Victorian guidebook described the rocks as 'a place wrecked with grim and hideous forms defying all description and definition'. The rocks have remained a great attraction, and stand on National Trust open moorland at a height of 950ft.
